Joined with the two words ‘Ayu’ and ‘Veda’ this means the knowledge of life. Ayurveda believes that the human body is made up of five basic elements i.e. Air, Fire, Water, Earth and Space. Vata, Pitta and Kapha are the three physiological factors made out of these five basic elements. These Vata, Pitta and Kapha are called as doshas. These doshas control all the physiological processes of the body.
A disease is caused by the imbalance of these three doshas and hence the treatment also aims to maintain the balance of these three. The prime importance is given to Agni (Digestive Fire) and Aam (Undigested toxic material). Understanding of these two explains us beautifully how the disease is originated and what the ways to balance the doshas are.
Ayurveda not only explain about the physical aspect of body but also gives equal importance to mental aspect also. It teaches us that a balanced life can be achieved by making balance of the three base pillars of life i.e. mind, body and soul. It is a time tested science. Modern day researchers have started to feel the necessity of a healthcare system which offers health firstly and the treatment secondly. Ayurveda being holistic in nature, is the perfect choice.
